Owning the Exit: Self-Serve Account Deletion
You can now permanently delete your Cal.com account and its associated data yourself, from your profile settings. Here's why that mattered enough to build.
Scheduling software sits in an awkward spot in your stack. It knows your calendar, your contacts, your meeting patterns, and — depending on how you use it — a fair amount about your business. When someone decides they're done with a product like that, "email support and wait" is the wrong answer.
So we shipped self-serve account deletion. It lives in your profile settings, and it does what it says: permanently removes your account and the data tied to it Delete Your Account.
Why this needed to be a first-class feature
For a long time, offboarding was a support ticket. That worked, technically, but it was the wrong default. It put a human queue in front of a decision that should be yours to make instantly, and it created an asymmetry we weren't comfortable with: signing up took thirty seconds, leaving took days.
There's also a trust argument. If we ask people to connect their primary calendar, their video conferencing accounts, and their payment providers, the least we can do is make the exit as legible as the entrance. A visible, obvious delete button is a small feature that says something larger about how we think about your data.
What it actually does
When you trigger deletion from your profile settings, your account and its associated data are permanently removed Delete Your Account. There's no soft-delete purgatory, no "we'll keep this around in case you change your mind" state hiding in a database somewhere. The step-by-step is in the help center, but the important part is the shape of it: one place, one action, done.
If you share a team or an organization, the flow accounts for that — your personal account is yours to delete, but shared resources have their own lifecycle. We'd rather be explicit about that boundary than surprise a teammate by vaporizing a shared event type.
What's next
Deletion is the endpoint of a longer arc we care about: giving people direct, unmediated control over their footprint in Cal.com. Export, transfer, and finer-grained data controls are all part of the same story, and you'll see more of them land over the coming months.
